Bangalore – December 5, 2022 – In a historic occasion commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Mitti Café launched two Cafes at the Kempegowda International Airport Bangalore that will be entirely run and managed by adults with disabilities. The Bangalore airport thus becomes the first in the world to have two cafes generating economic independence and dignity for adults with disability.
Alina Alam is the CEO and Founder of Mitti Café who runs and operates a chain of cafes managed by persons with disabilities, many of whom come from low-income communities. “We are thankful to the airport authorities, our sponsors, and other supporters who have made today a reality. Launching our two Cafes in such a public space as an airport will help send a strong message of inclusion to the public at large and sensitize them to the lives of persons with disabilities. We are extremely excited too about the economic and social opportunities the two Cafes present to our staff, for many of whom this is their first job.”
The inauguration of the airport Cafes was held in the presence of senior Kempegowda International Airport Managing Director Hari Marar mentioned “We are delighted to have Mitti Cafe open their store at BLR Airport, and to have the opportunity to leverage the power of a platform like that of an international airport to provide employment opportunities to those who are disadvantaged, and to spread a message of hope and positivity. It’s very inspirational to see how Mitti Cafe has created such an amazing concept of inclusive stores that is genuinely empowering and is a catalyst for social change. This concept and approach to business deeply resonate with our commitment to inclusivity. This is just the beginning of a wonderful partnership and we are looking at a long-term association.”
Both cafés were sponsored by IQVIA and ANZ Bank respectively and were attended by the senior leadership.
The event was also graced by leadership from the Kempegowda International Airport, India Coffee Board, Nudge Centre for Social Innovation, Social Venture Partners, Enable India, and NSRCEL amongst others.
